What is a Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA)?
This farming model provides food direct from the farm to you for the growing season. You pay up front before the season begins for a share, or subscription. It is a great option for those who love local produce, want to make a connection to the land their food is grown on and want to support their farmers when the farmers need it most (at the beginning of the season). Each week, you will pick up a box of seasonal vegetables. The box contents vary throughout the season. Eating seasonally connects you and your family with Belly Fire Farm as the vegetables ripen and are tucked into your box. Shareholders participate in shareholder-only u-picks and an end-of-the-season Harvest Celebration and potluck dinner.

Belly Fire Farm's CSA summer season begins the week of June 14 and lasts for 15 weeks, ending the week of September 20st. The end-of-the-season Harvest Celebration and potluck dinner is on Saturday, September 27th, 2013. Additional produce will be available on the 27th for CSA members.

  • How will you get your share?
        • Full shareholders pick up their shares Saturday mornings at the farm. We may have some additional u-pick available for shareholders during the summer pick-ups.

  • 1/2 shares will be picked up on the farm or will be delivered to Aurora, Dixon, or Sterling every other week (pending drop-offs having 10 confirmed CSA members).
How much will you get?

The box may meet your weekly vegetable needs, but this depends on your family and eating habits. For some households, this weekly amount will be just right; others may find it too much or not enough. We build in some peripheral flexibility to the shares for shareholders to tailor what they take home.

These include:

*A la carte options: When able we will offer an a la carte option allowing shareholders more flexibility to customize a portion of their share

*Occasional u-pick: When additional produce is available, shareholders will have the option of picking a predestinated amount of specific vegetables

*Donations: Belly Fire Farm wants good food to be eaten by hungry people. If you know you will not eat a certain vegetable and have no one (friend, neighbor, family, co-worker, mail deliverer) you plan to gift the vegetable to---then BFF will donate it to a food pantry on your behalf. Any portion of your share that you choose to donate will be freely given (you will not be able to replace it or exchange it with other vegetables [without using a market share or making an additional purchase]).

*Additional purchases: The CSA pick-up happens during our weekly on-site farmers market. If you love a particular vegetable and want more of it you can buy more from our market before you leave.

*Market shares: These offer the ultimate freedom, but do not come with all the benefits of being a shareholder. Purchasing a market share is similar to buying a gift card. 2013 CSA members receive a $50 market share bonus credit. Please see the Market Share section for more details.

What will be in your share?

Each week, we will provide a selection of seasonal vegetables in your box.

Looking at the growing season by month, June’s box will be mostly green (lettuces, radishes, and cooking greens), a welcome relief from the grey of winter. July will start with greens and end with a large variety of summer vegetables as the weather warms up During August and the first half of September, boxes will continue that bounty, including more tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, and onions. Weather permitting; there will be melons in your box by the end of August. As the leaves fall and autumn arrives, we will continue to include tomatoes and lettuce and focus on preparing your pantry for winter, with winter squash, onions, garlic, carrots, and other storable vegetables.

How much will it cost?
*A full share cost $550 and runs for 15-weeks from June 14th- September 20th.
* A half share cost $300 and is an every other week box. From June 14th- September 20th.In 2014

We are offering our shareholders who pay before January 2014 a special $50 Market Share bonus credit. Payment plans are available.

What if I go on vacation?

Give your share that week to someone else or make arrangements to pick up a double share the following week. Contact BFF for more details.

We offer seasonal vegetables and some fruit. Our boxes include an average of 13-16 item local, organically grown produce.

Here are some things you might see in a box*. We fill boxes based on what is ready each week. Generally speaking, mid-season boxes will be more full and varied than early or late season boxes.
